The General Election is Tuesday, November 5, 2013. So get ready to vote!
“Don’t forget to vote, by the way. The polls at the Essex fire station open at 6 a.m. and close at 9 p.m. In addition to filling various offices, voters will decide on six different proposals to amend the state constitution dealing with subjects like sewer debt, the age of judges and the NYCO land swap. The Candidates & Proposals
Running for the position of Town Supervisor are Ed Gardner and Sharon Boisen. Today an article came out that allowed the candidates to explain their positions. Take a look at the first question and their replies:
What do you bring to the office of supervisor that will benefit the residents of Essex?
Boisen: I bring to the table 30 years of financial experience, including banking, sole proprietorship, medical financial services and four years experience as Essex Town supervisor. Additionally, I will continue the honest and open government practices while working with the best interest of the town in mind.
Gardner: My knowledge having worked with past supervisors and sharing their ideas about the water issues and working on the budget. My heavy equipment experience and working as a mechanic will help me work with the highway superintendent. Continue reading article…
The League of Women Voters hosted a “Meet the Candidates” event on Oct. 24, 2013, which allowed the Town Supervisor candidates to campaign and the public to ask questions. Take a look at the questions asked and the candidates answers here.
Also running for offices are the following candidates:
Town Council: Bryan Garvey, Clair Lapine
Highway Superintendent: Bradley French
Town Clerk/Tax Collector: William Morgan
Essex County, District Attorney: Kristy Sprague
Supreme Court Justice, District 4: Thomas Nolan, Mark Powers, Stan Pritzker
There are also six proposals on this year’s ballot that you must vote yes or no on.
- New York State, Proposal Number One: An Amendment – Authorizing Casino Gaming
- New York State, Proposal Number Two: An Amendment – Additional Civil Service Credit for Veterans with Disabilities Certified Post-Appointment
- New York State, Proposal Number Three: An Amendment – Exclusion of Indebtedness Contracted for Sewage Facilities
- New York State, Proposal Number Four: An Amendment – Settling Disputed Title in the Forest Preserve
- New York State, Proposal Number Five: An Amendment – In Relation to a Land Exchange in the State Forest Preserve with NYCO Minerals, Inc.
- New York State, Proposal Number Six: An Amendment – Increasing Age until which Certain State Judges Can Serve
Go to vote411.org to learn more about these proposals. There you can also peruse and fill out your ballot ahead of time. This will allow you to familiarize yourself with the options, and you can even print out your sample ballot and bring it with you for reference while you fill out the actual ballot at your voting location!

Eat-in Dinner from 5:30-7:30
Enjoy turkey and all the trimmings: squash, potatoes, dressing, rolls and pie. $10 per person, kids 8 and under FREE. Proceeds to benefit The Grange.
